SIBERIA FROM THE AIR
During that long flight to China, I was fascinated at the aerial view of Siberia! -
China Trip

China is a fascinating country. We spent time walking the Great Wall, that was built by hand so many, many years ago. Just to imagine the people had to carry the blocks by hand over all those miles to build this wall to protect their country and then they had to "Man" those outposts alone with to means of communication blows your mind.
They were bargains to be had everywhere we went. Almost no one spoke English except to convey the price they wanted for their good. There are still many, many bicycles everywhere, along with the new influx of cars. In our hote in Bejing, there were 3 distinct sections: the old traditional one, the white wooden trim center sections, and the 3rd ultra modern section.

Yantze River

The haze that falls over the Yantze River between the gorges is beautiful. At the time of these pictures, the filling of the river was only 1/3 full, still allowing the bridges at the top of the gorge to be used. When the dam is completed (hopefully in time for the 2008 Olympics), these gorges will be totally filled and the bridges removed making way for much more river commerce and new bridges needing to be built.
We noticed the large amount of commercial traffic on the River now. Much of the land along the river has no roads to they really depend upon it.
